Dee Dee Johnson

Dee Dee Johnson has been dancing her whole life. As a founding student of Leona Bataille in 1969, she has been dedicated to the Bataille Academie of the Danse since the start. When she took over the studio in 1988 her vision was to further enhance the work that Leona had put into place. Dee Dee believes in teaching the journey of dance, not just the execution of the steps to her students and has further built the studio upon the grounds of love and discipline. Dee Dee received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Illinois State University, where she danced with the University Dance Theater and the Coryphees Dance Team.  She is a graduate member of Dance Educators of American (DEA) and the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters (CNADM), where she just received recognition for her 25 years of membership.

At the studio she instructs ballet, tap, jazz, acrobatics, pointe, lyrical, pre-ballet and boys-only dance classes. Dee Dee is also the director of the Integrity Dance Project, a pre-professional dance company dedicated to embracing the process of concert dance and giving back to the community. She believes in the power of community involvement, and  is an executive board member at Barrington Area United Way, a co-chairwoman on the Barrington Cultural Coalition, an active member of the Mano a Mano resource center gala and a community leader who works against drug and alcohol abuse. When she’s not dancing or giving back to her community, Dee Dee likes to spend time with her children and husband, enjoying outdoor activities, exploring the city of Chicago and running.
